Opinion: Five players who did Spurs proud away at West Ham

Tottenham Hotspur were back to winning ways in the Premier League today against West Ham, and away from home no less!

Let’s take a look at five players who really impressed in Jose Mourinho’s first game in charge of the Lilywhites.

Heung Min Son

An absolute live wire today, Sonny had the game tied up within the first half with a superb goal and assist. Always willing to run for the team for the full 90 minutes, whether it’s to get in behind or to simply create space for others. Beginning to look clinical even when Kane is in the team, something he has struggled with in the past.

Dele Alli

It was like watching the Alli of old today in that central attacking position. He was a huge part of the vast majority of Tottenham’s attacks, acting as the link between defence and the front three. Not only that, but we saw the desire from Alli that has been missing of late. He looks well up for this new life under Mourinho.

Harry Kane

Mourinho adopted a long-ball tactic today, taking the pressure off the defence by clipping balls forward onto the head of Kane. He won the majority of them and found his teammates well, instantly setting up four v four attacks from nothing. Not only that, but he looked sharp in front of goal, taking his header very well.

Lucas Moura

It must he remembered that Moura never really started consistently under Mauricio Pochettino. However, today was a great advert for what he can bring to a front three with Kane and Son. Always great on the ball and hard to shake off, Moura carries it forward effortlessly. Barring his woeful miss in the second half, he looked very sharp today.

Harry Winks

Perhaps Mourino was influenced by Winks’ recent performances for England, Winks was a superb choice in midfield today. His passing was accurate, fast, and positive, kickstarting attacks efficiently and directly. He also put in a number of superb tackles, showing his well-rounded game. A must-pick in there for me.
