Opinion: Five things we learned from Tottenham’s awful 3-0 defeat to Man United

Tottenham Hotspur suffered their fifth defeat in ten Premier League matches so far this season after they were comfortably beaten 3-0 by Manchester United in North London.

Here are five things we learned from the defeat:

There seems no way back for Nuno

Boos rang around the stadium when Nuno took Lucas Moura off. Boos at half-time. Boos at full-time. Boos during the match. I don’t know if Nuno is going to be able to get a lot of fans back on side, if he ever had some of them.

Daniel Levy chants

Nuno and the players were not the only targets. Sections of the crowd were also chanting ‘we want Levy out’ in the second half. It feels like a turning point over the past month, some Spurs fans have had enough.

No belief

It looks to me as though some of the players do not believe in what Tottenham are trying to do at the moment. We seem to lack the bite, passion and desire needed to consistently win in the Premier League. Perhaps the disconnect runs deeper than the fans and the club.

Rebuild direction

The very definition of a rebuild revolves around a plan, foundations and… well building. The fans and the club are more disconnected than ever and I’m not sure anyone knows the plan, including some at the club. Who knows if the plan ever exists at all.

Top four a no go – I have seen some on social media hoping for Spurs to take advantage and push for that 4th spot. There is no chance. Tottenham do not have the consistency needed. Not even close. That 4th spot will go to a West Ham or Man Utd if they improve a bit.
