Opinion: How the Spurs players rated in the 3-0 defeat to Manchester United

Another day, another heavy defeat at home to bog six rivals for Tottenham this season, this time with a 3-0 defeat to Man United.

Let’s take a look at how the players got on:

Hugo Lloris – 6 – Can’t put the man any lower than that. He made a good save from a Fred shot and had no chance with the goals. He was let down again.

Emerson Royal – 6 – Defensively, I thought he matched up against Ronaldo quite nicely in the first half. On the ball, we didn’t get enough with his crossing or playing out from the back.

Cristian Romero – 6.5 – The best player on the pitch for Spurs, although that is not saying much. Definitely a great player to build a team around.

Eric Dier – 5 – Far below the standards he has set himself this season, both on the ball and defensively. Got pulled around a lot and left gaping holes in his path.

Ben Davies – 3 – Clearly brought in to add more defensive cover for the Man Utd wing-backs. However, he then made a huge defensive error leading to the first goal.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg – 3 – One of his worst games in a Spurs shirt. Lacked bite, gave the ball away for fun, and his passing was way off. Cost Spurs at least one goal in the build-up.

Oliver Skipp – 4 – A mistake leading to the second goal but even before that he didn’t quite look his robust and energetic self.

Giovani Lo Celso – 3 – The player in that advanced midfield role has to be a constant outlet and create. Too many backward passes when he needed to be brave and fell short of expectations again.

Lucas Moura – 6 – One of the brightest sparks for Spurs until Nuno hauled him off early which was met by boos from the crowd.

Harry Kane – 4 – Once again, he was barely in the game and when Spurs did find him, he gave it away. Looks so far short of his standards.

Heung-min Son – 5 – Put in a decent shift but that’s about all I can say. Most of Tottenham’s half chances fell to him and he didn’t have his shooting boots on.

Subs

Steven Bergwijn – 5.5 – Came on in the second half and worked really hard but he hasn’t had the minutes to be match sharp yet.

Tanguy Ndombele – 3 – Was given 25 minutes in a deep role and he was uncharacteristically wasteful, giving the ball away a lot.

Dele Alli – 4 – Came on and pressed well, barely saw the ball.
