Jose Mourinho has named his squad to face Reading this afternoon at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and there are more than a few talking points from the selection.
Let’s take a look at five of the highlights:
Aurier returns –
Despite rumours linking him with a move away this summer (Sky Sports) and the potential incoming of a new right-back (Guardian), Serge Aurier has been named on the bench against Reading.
Kane and Ndombele COVID-19
Kane has not yet returned to action since he was asked to quarantine following his holiday this summer (BBC), while Ndombele tested positive for COVID-19 this week (talkSPORT). Both miss the game today.
Lo Celso and Sanchez missing
Lo Celso and Sanchez are two first-team regulars who have not been seen for either pre-season friendly thus far. They were not selected for the Ipswich squad and also miss out today. Danny Rose is also nowhere to be seen. Will we see them tomorrow?
Gedson gets the nod
Gedson Fernandes has been given the nod at right-back after his impressive display there last week. This seems to hint that Mourinho sees him as a potential second-choice right-back for the new season in that newly-formed attacking wing-back role.
North London is White
While a number of youngsters were given minutes last week against Ipswich, Harvey White has taken things one step further and earns a start against Reading today. This could imply that the youngster is at the forefront of the next batch of academy players coming through.
