Opinion: The development of Sonny

It is pretty clear for all to see that every Spurs fan idolises Heung min Son and he absolutely adores Spurs.

The South Korean superstar has gone from strength to strength since his arrival in 2015 but looking back, it wasn’t always plain sailing.

In his first season Sonny managed just 1 assist and 4 goals in 28 games, he was linked with a move back to Germany with Wolfsburg in the summer of 2016 which had they increased their offer may have tempted Daniel Levy to cash in early doors (Evening Standard).

Sonny has admitted that he did want to leave Tottenham after his first lacklustre season but after returning from South Korea’s Olympic heartbreak it gave him a new focus and desire to stay and develop under then-boss Mauricio Pochettino who stuck by him and gave him the time and opportunities he needed (Goal).

I’d say that it was a pretty good decision and Sonny has since proved what a fantastic player he is and would walk into any side across every league. Whether it is filling in as a striker when needed or out on the wing, he is always contributing with goals and assists whilst making everyone fall in love with his infectious smile and personality.

Son has won Spurs’ player of the season award for two years running and managed 11 goals and 10 assists last campaign (let’s not forget two red cards). Every season he improves and has already bagged eight Premier League goals and two assists, we are only six games in to the season (transfermarkt).

The man is on fire and his partnership with Harry Kane is gold, their link up and telepathy has hit new heights and with Kane’s new slightly deeper role putting beautiful passes on a silver plate for his team mate, it’s a winning combination. Spurs have two talismans of incredible quality and make them a real credible threat in challenging for the title.

With our beloved Sonny set to sign a new bumper five-year deal we can look forward to many more years of our smiley star giving us goals galore until 2025 and quite honestly there is no one more deserving (Football Insider).
