Opinion: Three Spurs players who were far from their best against Man City

Tottenham Hotspur recorded a famous 2-0 win over Man City this afternoon in the Premier League, leapfrogging up to fifth in the table.

Goals from Steven Bergwijn and Heung-min Son sealed a delightful win and clean sheet for the Lilywhites against the current champions.

However, a few players left a lot to be desired at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Heung-min Son

Yes, he scored the second goal, but even that was deflected and looked to be going down the middle originally. Sonny really struggled to get on the ball and take on City defenders today. In truth, he has looked pretty consistently poor since returning from his ban. With Kane out, the South Korean needs to dip deep and rediscover his best form or risk dropping to the bench.

Dele Alli

Alli was a passenger again today. I suspect that he felt the reprucussions from the Sterling horror challenge for the majority of the game. However, if he decided to stay out there, he has to deliver. Seemed half a yard behind everyone else on the pitch and wasn’t quite there either defensively or offensively. The England man needs to get back to his best if he wants to make that Euros squad in the summer.

Serge Aurier

Overall, Serge defended really well all day. However, no matter how well you do over 90 minutes, one moment of madness can cost the team. He should not have dived in on Aguero when the striker was going away from goal. If he can cut out the errors leading to penalties, Aurier would be some player.

A lucky not to make the list – Davinson Sanchez

Sanchez was extremely shaky at the start of the match, but escapes the list this week. He went on to look commanding in the air and dealt with low crosses expertly. I suspect that he just needs a run in the first team to get his confidence and sharpness back.
