Opinion: Why is Christian Eriksen still starting games for Tottenham?

Tottenham Hotspur were looking to bounce back from their mid-week humiliation at the hands of Bayern Munich, but instead faced yet another embarrassment.

I always expected Pochettino to make changes for this match, but I was hoping he would drop players based on poor form.

Christian Eriksen revealed in the summer that he no longer wanted to be at the club, as he felt that he wanted a step up and a change.

However, Eriksen stayed at the club beyond the transfer window, and has featured heavily for the club ever since.

I have no problem with him wanting to move onto better things after years of good service, but after the move didn’t happen, I wanted to see him get his head down.

As long as he continued to play well, with effort and passion, I would be happy for him to play out his final year and leave on a free.

However, I just don’t feel as if Spurs are getting full effort from him, and he certainly isn’t playing at a high level.

So, why are Tottenham continuing to start a player who probably won’t be here next here, who also happens to be dropping awful performance after awful performance? It doesn’t make any sense to me.

The likes of Erik Lamela, Giovani Lo Celso, Lucas Moura, Dele Alli, Tanguy Ndombele, Harry Winks, Moussa Sissoko, Oliver Skipp, and more should be way above him in the pecking order.

Rotate players in who haven’t had a chance rather than giving someone on the way out game time based on his name rather than merit.
