Opinion: Why the Premier League suspension is good news for Tottenham

It was confirmed this morning that the Premier League has officially been suspended until April 4 at the very least.

This decision was a long time coming after numerous Premier League clubs including Arsenal, Chelsea, Leicester and Everton had players and/or staff in self-isolation from the coronavirus (Daily Mail).

We must first point out that in our opinion, Tottenham are set to benefit from the suspension from a safety point of view.

Continuing the season with players and fans spreading the virus each week would have been a huge error and a naive decision.

Spurs should be handing their players two week isolation periods with training regimes to follow at home in order to stay fit.

However, Tottenham will likely benefit from a footballing point of view. Three weeks will give the Lilywhites plenty of time to get their players back to fitness.

The likes of Harry Kane, Ben Davies, Moussa Sissoko, Davinson Sanchez, and Heung-min Son have been out injured as of late.

Hopefully, many of them will be able to get back to fitness in time for the when the Premier League resumes.

This would be a significant boost to Tottenham’s hopes of pushing for a top four spot this season.
