Spurs player ratings vs Luton Town

Guglielmo Vicario – 8 – His kicking was a little hit and miss today but there were no problems with his shot-stopping. Turned a couple of really dangerous efforts around the post at key moments.

Pedro Porro – 8 – There wasn’t much trouble down Porro’s side today thanks to his diligent defending. His build-up play and creativity in the second half was incredible.

Cristian Romero – 8.5 – Just makes it look easy at times. Most of Tottenham’s trouble came down the left and a large part of that was down to Romero’s solidity. The most progressive passing centre-back in the squad by a mile too.

Radu Dragusin – 7 – You do get the sense he isn’t totally comfortable on that left side. The truth is, he is really Romero’s understudy and Spurs will buy a left-footed squad player in the summer. Too early to judge him too harshly.

Destiny Udogie – 7.5 – Struggled defensively at times and let Luton get to the byline far too often. Going forward, he was more dangerous than he seemed. Had Werner squared him the ball, he would have opened the scoring for Spurs.

Yves Bissouma – 7 – Still doesn’t look at his best but much more progressive and press resistant at times today. Still not at the levels we saw at the start of the season though.

Pape Matar Sarr – 7.5 – Where does he get his energy from?! Just runs and runs and runs. He is essential to the Spurs high press at the moment but often flies under the radar when it comes to dishing out praise.

James Maddison – 7 – Has looked a little out of sorts since his injury. I wonder if he is still carrying something, seeing as he came off early and barely played for England. Much more creative in the second half though.

Dejan Kulusevski – 4 – Really disappointing performance. The space was out wide, but he insisted on cutting inside every time. Just wasn’t the game for him and Postecoglou was right to take him off at half-time.

Heung-min Son – 7 – His general play today left a lot to be desired. Seemed to get his feet in a muddle more often than not. But the Spurs captain stepped up when the team needed him to grab the winner.

Timo Werner – 6 – Played really well up until the final moment. Should have scored twice and assisted one for Udogie with the positions he got into. Seems to panic in those situations at times.

Substitutes:

Brennan Johnson – 7.5 – Came on and changed the game for Spurs. He made the pitch as wide as possible to stretch Luton and then delivered a wicked cross to force the own goal.

Rodrigo Bentancur – 7 – Upped the pace of the passing when he came on, which was much needed.

Giovani Lo Celso – 6 – His longest stint on the pitch in a while and he never quite got up to speed. Did come up with some nice progressive passes though and always presses with 100% effort.

Richarlison – N/A

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg – N/A
