Spurs full time ratings vs Newcastle – Top four, you’re having a laugh

Here’s how we rated the Spurs players following the awful performance in the 4-0 defeat to Newcastle United which could prove to be costly in their hopes of a top four finish.

Once again, Tottenham failed to perform and issues at both end of the pitch have proved to be costly.

Here is how we rated the players:

Guglielmo Vicario: Made one good save in the second half, still shaky on set pieces with no clear coaching direction. 3.

Pedro Porro: Made another shocking error with his backpass which led to Newcastle’s second. Tweaked his hamstring in the early minutes of the second half and was replaced by Royal. 3.

Cristian Romero: He needs to take more responsibility at the back, especially for set pieces. His lack of positioning which led to huge gaps between the two centre halves was a concern. 3.

Micky van de Ven: Had a first half to forget with two embarrassing moments where he ended up on his backside for both of Newcastle’s goals. His positioning for Isak’s second to allow him to race through was baffling. Booked in the first half. 2.

Destiny Udogie: Anthony Gordon easily bullied him off the ball for the opener. 3.

Rodrigo Bentancur: Struggled to make any impact on the match in the advanced role, replaced by Sarr early in the second half. 3.

Yves Bissouma: He simply is not a number six and just how long is Ange going to continue to pick him? Booked in the early moments of the second half. Replaced by Hojbjerg. 3.

James Maddison: Another sub-standard display and he must now be getting nervy that is place on the plane for Euro 2024 is under question. Replaced with ten minutes remaining. Booked. 3.

Timo Werner: Should have hit the target with his first chance early on, unfortunately, he isn’t a natural goalscorer. 3.

Brennan Johnson: Starved of the ball in the first half aside from two decent crosses. Played more centrally in the second half after Son was taken off. 3.

Heung-min Son: Completely invisible and it was summed up when Ange brought of his captain on 56 minutes. 2.

Emerson Royal: Came on in the 48th minute for the injured Porro. A poor defensive header saw Newcastle nearly score a fourth only for the post to save his blushes. 3.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg: He must be scratching his head thinking what he must do to get a start ahead of Bissouma. Another second half replacement. 3.

Pape Matar Sarr: Came on to replace Bentancur. No real impact. 3.

Dejan Kulusevski: Came on for Son just ten minutes into the second half. Was a spectator from the set-piece to see Schar head home. 3.

Giovani Lo Celso: The Argentine is another who has to be close to starting with Maddison’s form absent. 3.
