When the Spurs go Marching In (Soon)

Andros Townsend

Injuries

As alluded to above, it was a brutal year for us injury-wise. Fitness prevented of our signings from adjusting quickly, and they also kept many of our key players out for extended periods (i.e. our engine room of Sandro and Dembele), and they also stunted the growth of the up-and-coming Andros Townsend. Our squad is likely to strengthen without the ravishing that took place this year, and with a sustained squad and consistent selection, there’s no reason that we can’t challenge for higher glory next season.

The Loaned Boys

In addition to the squad members we’re used to, we also have a number of very capable returning players. Chiefly, we have Tom Carroll, our little English Xavi on his way back to North London this season to wreak havoc on all opposition, and I firmly believe that Lewis Holtby can be a force in the side as well. We’ve also got Ryan Fredericks, a kid who looks like he could be a great deputy full back and potential starter in the future, Alex Pritchard, who was voted the second-best player in league one, which you’d think would translate to at least a reasonably capable Premier League role player, Iago Falque, who has shown at least flashes of potential, and Shaquile Coulthirst, who may not actually ever establish himself in the team, but his name is freaking Shaquille Coulthirst and he’s a relatively entertaining twitter follow, if only because his twitter feed resembles my sister’s.

Manchester United

We have the opportunity to finish above Manchester United two years in a row—the bastards. How fun is that?

In Conclusion

So you see friends, not all is lost. There’s still plenty of hope the season that is to come. No matter how many times this season enraged you enough to throw your gilet, we are loaded with hope for the future—so much so, that I’m confident that 2014-2015 is the year the Spurs will indeed go marching in.
