Spurs half-time ratings vs Aston Villa – No attacking threat

Here’s how we rated the Tottenham Hotspur players following the opening forty-five minutes of action in this afternoon’s early Premier League clash against Aston Villa in the Midlands.

Ange Postecoglou’s side head into the break currently level at 0-0 with chances few and far between.

Guglielmo Vicario: Has not had much to do with both sides failing to threaten either goal. 5.

Pedro Porro: Back in the side following his muscular injury and has made a couple of important defensive tackles. 5.

Cristian Romero: Had a first taste of Watkins’ pace inside five minutes when the Villa forward beat him to a header to break in behind. Watkins has looked to position himself on the shoulder of the Argentine. Needs to release the ball quicker in possession, Maddison and Son have both made good runs in behind and been ignored. Did well to block Watkin’s shot after he gave the ball away cheaply. 5.

Micky van de Ven: Helped to bail out Romero early on when he raced back to deny Watkins a shot on goal. 7.

Destiny Udogie: Has looked to progress the ball down the left and create space by picking out the furthest forward player to create space. 6.

Pape Matar Sarr: Chosen ahead of Rodrigo Bentancur. Booked after 18 minutes for bringing down Tielemans. 5.

Yves Bissouma: A lapse of concentration from the midfielder to gift the ball back to VIlla on the edge of his own box, which thankfully amounted to nothing. Needs to regain his confidence from earlier this season where he was breaking the lines with ease. 5.

James Maddison: Had struggled to get into the game. 4.

Brennan Johnson: Recalled ahead of Werner after his Palace performance. His footwork has caused Cash problems but has ben unable to cause any real threat with his end product. 5.

Dejan Kulusevski: Aside from an offside decision and a couple of general touches, has not been in this game at all. 4.

Heung-min Son: The Spurs skipper has been limited to pressing the Villa backline with little opportunity in possession. 4.
