Spurs half time ratings vs Newcastle – Plenty of pressure and two goals

Here’s how we rated the Spurs players following the opening forty-five minutes of action in this afternoon’s Premier League clash against Newcastle United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Ange Postecoglou’s side head into the break currently 2-0 ahead courtesy of goals from Udogie and Richarlison.

Guglielmo Vicario: Has not been troubled. 6.

Pedro Porro: Spurs’ best player against West Ham, has had another solid half. 7.

Cristian Romero: Came close to scoring for a second game in a row, but saw his headed effort cleared off the line by Almiron. 6.

Ben Davies: His sliding challenge was just enough to deny Isak a tap-in at the back post. His distribution of the ball has been decent. 7.

Destiny Udogie: Played a nice flick of a half chance to Richarlison. Carried the ball brilliantly into the Newcastle area but tried to pass rather than take the more obvious shot on goal. Minutes later he opened the scoring after a neat interchange with Son. 8.

Yves Bissouma: Has looked to get on the ball and get things moving. 6.

Papa Matar Sarr: Back into the starting eleven with Hojbjerg dropping to the bench.Squandered a brilliant chance to put his side 2-0 up when he sliced Johnson’s cross wide of the goal. 7.

Dejan Kulusevski: A much better performance than witnessed against West Ham. Had a decent chance just before half time but could not get his foot around the ball. 7.

Richarlison: Saw plenty of the ball in then opening minutes, worked hard and got his reward when he scored his first goal with his feet in Spurs colours. 7.

Heung-min Son: Playing on the left with Richarlison moved into the middle. Played a brilliant pass across the six-yard box for Udogie to smash home the opener. Turned Trippier inside out to get his second assist of the game to tee up Richarlison. 7.

Brennan Johnson: Was massively let off the hook when he lost the ball in his own half and Almiron failed to punish him. Needs to release the ball earlier, especially when crossing. Saw an effort before half time go the wrong side of the post. 6.
