Fraser Forster – Called into action after four minutes to turn Ross Barkley’s effort around the post (6).

Emerson Royal – Has played most of the opening forty five minutes in the Nice half, linked up nicely with Gil just before the half-hour mark (6).

Japhet Tanganga – Has stepped out of defence with the ball well on a couple of occasions (6).

Davinson Sanchez – Named captain for the evening, a sloppy missed touch gifted Nice a corner kick (5).

Clement Lenglet – Has looked assured at the back (6).

Matt Doherty – Played as left wing-back with Perisic still away and Sessegnon working his way back with a hamstring issue. A better touch on 19 minutes would have opened up a shot on goal but made up for it when he broke the deadlock seconds later (7).

Yves Bissouma – His effort on goal took a deflection away from the Nice goal, has tried to get the ball moving quickly. (6)

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg – Back in the side following Denmark’s disappointing time in Qatar. (6)

Dejan Kulusevki – Saw an early free-kick fail to trouble Schmeichel. Played a neat ball through to Doherty for the opener (6).

Harvey White – Playing in a more advanced role than usual (6).

Bryan Gil – Has pressed well from the front to put pressure on the Nice defence. Had a chance just before the half-hour mark and made another run in behind the French side close to half time (7).
