Spurs half time ratings vs Shakhtar Donetsk – Udogie and Sarr impress

Here’s how we rated the Tottenham Hotspur players following the opening forty-five minutes of action against Shakhtar Donetsk in today’s pre-season friendly in North London.

Ange Postecoglou’s side head into the break against their opponents currently at 1-1 ahead after Harry Kane’s penalty was equalised on the cusp of half time.

Guglielmo Vicario: Hesitated for a fraction on fifteen minutes after a ball over the top from Shakhtar created an opportunity, but eventually managed to put it behind for a corner. Could do little for the goal. 6.

Emerson Royal: Made a vital block to deny a shot on goal early on. 7.

Cristian Romero: A brilliantly timed, strong tackle after 10 minutes brought a big applause from the home fans. His passing has been impressive. 7.

Ben Davies: Operating as the left central defender with soon-to-be Spurs signing Micky van de Ven watching on in the stand. Gave his opponent too much space for the equaliser. 6.

Destiny Udogie: A first outing for the Italian at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and started the match very brightly. Fired a shot back across goal after some intricate passing with Kane and Son. 8.

Pape Matar Sarr: Had an early shot on goal and followed it up with another when he controlled well from Hojbjerg’s pass and his hit was tipped over. Nearly opened the scoring almost unwittingly when the keeper pushed the ball onto his head, only to see it go inches wide. 8.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg: A first start in pre-season for the Dane. Played a nice pass into the path for Sarr’s shot and followed it up with an inch-perfect cross-field pass to Son. 7.

James Maddison: Did well to roll away from a defender to create a shooting opportunity and will be disappointed to have scuffed his shot. Has looked to be the conduit between attack and midfield, playing just off Kane. Won his side a penalty when he was brought down inside the box. His footwork has been impressive. 8.

Dejan Kulusevski: Took a nasty blow to his side but managed to carry on. Was denied by the keeper with a low shot after linking up well with Maddison. 7.

Harry Kane: Had the first chance of the game after three minutes when his shot was well saved by the keeper. Who else to break the deadlock when he fired the ball into the bottom corner from the penalty spot. 8.

Heung-min Son: Has had plenty of space on the left and has overhit a couple of his passes. 6.
