Spurs vs Wolves full-time ratings – frustration and futility

Here’s how we rated the Spurs players following this afternoon’s disappointing 2-1 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Ange Postecoglou‘s side equalised instantly in the second half today, but were hit on the counter-attack by Wolves and were unable to turn things around thanks to a resolute performance from the visiting side.

Tottenham’s full-time ratings

Guglielmo Vicario: Made another incredible save in the second half from close range. He really does keep us in games so often now. 6.

Emerson Royal: Simply doesn’t offer enough going forward, and is not comfortable in possession. The best thing I can say about Emerson Royal is that he works hard, but that’s not enough. 4.

Cristian Romero: Consistently the one to bring the ball out of defence for Spurs and try to make things happen with long-range passing, but to no avail. 6.

Micky van de Ven: Continued to be a calm and confident presence at the back for Spurs. But, in a second half dominated by attacking play, the Dutchman had little impact. 6.

Ben Davies: Much improved going forward in the second half, linking up with Heung-min Son down the left. Worked incredibly hard for the cause, as always. Missed a sitter late on. 6.

Yves Bissouma: A fairly solid performance, but it cannot be ignored that Bissouma lost the ball at the start of Wolves’ counter-attack for their second goal. Was taken off after 70 minutes. 5.

Pape Matar Sarr: An energetic albeit aimless performance. Failed to impact the game in any significant way before he was taken off after 70 minutes. 5.

James Maddison: A frustrating afternoon for Tottenham’s playmaker, who was snuffed out of the game by a well-organised Wolves side. Substituted off with a little over five minutes to go. 5.

Dejan Kulusevski: Made an instant impact in the second half and took his goal really well. Moved move central further into the half and did not stop running and trying to make things happen. 7.

Richarlison: Another player who will be frustrated today. High work rate, but struggled to find any chances on goal at all. Taken off after 70 minutes. 5.

Heung-min Son: Eager to carry the ball down that left-hand side as much as possible and constantly looking for that killer ball, but was unable to make a real difference today. 5.

Rodrigo Bentancur: Really does not look himself at the minute. A muted cameo appearance from the midfielder. 5.

Timo Werner: Relentlessly looking for the ball and trying to find ways through the Wolves defence, but could not find a way through. Had a great opportunity in the box late on, but couldn’t get his shot away cleanly. 5.

Brennan Johnson: Barely had a sniff of the ball down the right-hand side. Will be disappointed at how invisible he was today, regardless of how little time he had to make an impact. 4.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg: On for the last ten minutes. Had little chance to do anything of note. 5.

Giovani Lo Celso: Similar to Hojbjerg, didn’t really manage to get in the rhythm of the game. 5.
