We’re the Best Team in the League

And we were last year, too, despite the final record. Nobody will ever deny Leicester their achievement, but if the teams played ten times, we would have won more than them. And the Gunners pipping us was our letdown after the Bridge and the Alli/Dembele suspensions, not their superior ability. We may not catch Chelsea—they are talented and resourceful and seven points are seven points. But anyone who saw the two games and realizes that we lacked Alerweireld and Rose in the first has to understand which of these teams are better. They are both among the best 10—perhaps best 5—defenders in the league. If they were present, Moses never scores that final goal.

So now what? Poch has to bring them down and keep them squarely focused on what lies ahead. Tough fixtures at Anfield and the Etihad still await. And this team cannot drop games like West Ham, Norwich, West Brom and Newcastle games in the past—not this year, not in this league.

Alli is the star tonight. But Kane worked his arse off—Eriksen made a hugely important cross for the second goal—Wanyama was typically resolute in the middle, and the defence was near flawless. This team has no obvious weaknesses other than the one we will now hear a little more faintly “They’ve never been here before”.

So what. We are there now, making all that noise, everywhere we go.
