Tottenham Hotspur are one win away from lifting a major trophy for the first time in 17 years and Heung-min Son deserves success more than anyone.
Tottenham have experienced plenty of positives over the past decade. From recording their best ever finish in the Premier League to reaching the Champions League final, the club are now considered one of the biggest in England.
However, Spurs always seem to fall short at the final hurdle. Captain Heung-min Son knows this as much as anyone. He arrived at Hotspur Way shortly after Tottenham lost the 2015 Carabao Cup final to Chelsea. Since this, he has been a runner-up in the league with Tottenham and lost two finals, as well as multiple semi-finals.
This is a harsh reality considering how much Son has offered Spurs over the years. He has scored at least 10 goals in all except his first season at the club, including sharing the Premier League golden boot with Mohamed Salah in the 2021/22 season, scoring 23 goals. Also, this will be the fourth season he registers 10 league assists, if he manages one more.

Heung-min Son has been loyal to Tottenham when others have not
Loyalty seems to be a dying quality in modern football. Players are always looking to progress to the next level and this has been true of many Spurs players. A fine example is Harry Kane, who recently celebrated winning the Bundesliga title with Bayern Munich after pushing for a move away from his boyhood club.
It would be unfair to feel bitter towards Kane. He was exceptional for Tottenham and deserved to be able to move on and win a trophy elsewhere. However, the Korean international may feel like he is being punished for being loyal to Spurs, when so many of his former teammates have left the club and won trophies without him.
This did not stop Son from congratulating Harry Kane for Bayern’s triumph on a FaceTime call, in a classy act from one of the nicest footballers you could meet.
Son told TNT Sports: “We’re still good friends, best mates, so I called him, I texted him, and he FaceTimed me.
“He was very, very happy, and then I’m just happy to see him smiling, happy to see him lift the trophy that he deserves more than anyone else. What a fantastic moment for him.
“I hope there are many more to come, I think one is not good enough for Harry – the ability, the quality he has, I think he deserves more than anyone else.
“It’s not only because I’m a friend of him, the way he sacrificed, the way he works. What a player and well-deserving. I want to congratulate him again here, personally and then as a friend. I was very, very happy.”
However, if Harry Kane was the most deserving of a trophy in world football just two weeks ago, that title has now surely transferred to Sonny himself.

Time is running out for Sonny at Spurs
Son recently revealed he has stayed at Tottenham because he wants to do something others could not, by winning a major trophy. His determination is admirable, but his time is running out. The 32-year-old has signed a one-year contract extension at Spurs, but this only keeps him at the club for one more season.
Tottenham have not managed to compete in a cup final for two consecutive years since 2009, so next Wednesday could be Son’s last chance to fulfil his ultimate goal. No one deserves this more than him and hopefully, he will be at the top of his game and end his long wait for a club trophy.
A Manchester United side who, like Tottenham, have endured a difficult season, are all that stand in Son’s way of winning the Europa League. Of all the teams Spurs have faced in finals, this is the greatest opportunity in some time. Son is close to writing his final chapter in North London and it could be the best one yet.
