Tottenham’s summer transfer targets

Asmir Begovic

Writing this one pains me. It pains me because it admits the possibility of the great Hugo Lloris leaving the Lane. Kaboul being given the captaincy last year was a farce but once armband or not it was clear that Lloris was a leader in the Spurs camp. An experienced, seasoned international in a squad largely filled with young talent. Importantly, Lloris lead by example with countless game-saving displays throughout his time here. He has doubtless been a major factor Tottenham’s hunt for top-4 honours and this contribution has not gone unnoticed. Real Madrid, PSG and Man United may all be looking in the ‘keeper aisle in this summer’s market and after 3 years of knocking on the door with Spurs, the lure of Champions League may finally prove too tempting for Lloris to refuse.

If Spurs are forced into selling Lloris, they’ll certainly be paid handsomely for it. Despite the quality of Michel Vorm, I feel the first bit of reinvestment must go towards another top class stopper. Enter: Asmir Begovic. Spurs allegedly were interested in bringing the Bosnian giant here from Portsmouth however the deal fell through.

Since then, he has consistently proven himself as one of the top goalkeepers in the Premier League for Stoke City. Begovic’s contract is expiring in 2016 so if ever there was a time to buy a top goalkeeper on the relative cheap; who at 27 is only entering his prime, now would be the time. The man mountain would certainly take a good stab at filling Lloris big boots.
