Three Wishes for the New Season

Munich. The Allianz Arena to be exact. The sight of our former welsh wizard scoring a spectacular goal, albeit against us at the wrong end, whilst painful and one I hoped I would never endure, was a reminder of the brilliance he once produced in our colours and more evidence of the player he has become thanks largely to Spurs.

This incident however was not the most significant which occurred in our friendly match against the galacticos of Real Madrid the other night. Those who watched the match in its entirety would have spotted young Dele Alli (a quite mouth-wateringly exciting new signing at the Lane) nutmeg our one time talismanic midfielder Luka Modric and pull off some very neat skills and touches during his time on the field. Could it be a sign of things to come I wonder?

My first wish for the upcoming campaign is that we continue to blood our best young talents. Pochettino has shown he will give youth a chance and this must continue. Alli has showcased his immense potential at League One level and although it is a huge gulf in class, I would be happy and not at all surprised were he to get a chance in the first team in the coming months. This seems infinitely more possible considering we have not yet replaced the departing Paulinho, Capoue or Stambouli and there is no talk of any loan moves on the horizon for the young midfielder either.

My second wish is that we can bring in at least two forward players before the window closes. They do not have to be established stars or even well known players. I feel that the style Pochettino wants to implement requires pacey hard working wingers and I am still unsure that we really posses any. Townsend? Too Inconsistent. Lamela? Potentially. Chadli? Maybe. With Lennon seemingly without a future we could really do with adding a hungry, direct winger to this bunch. It goes without saying we also need a forward to share the burden with Kane.

Thirdly and finally I hope those that performed well for us last season can do so again. This is an absolute must. Lloris, Eriksen and Kane are our stellar players and must produce similar levels this time round. I feel we have made some good additions at the back and should be a better balanced team this season but there will without doubt be times that these three players in particular will have to carry us through games. Injuries or poor form from more than one of these guys at any one time could spell trouble.

Off to Old Trafford we go. COYS!!!
