Burnley vs Tottenham Premier League preview, team news and predicted line-ups

Following an impressive midweek Champions League outing, Tottenham turn their attention back to the Premier League, travelling to Burnley on Saturday.

Almost guaranteed to be sacked had Spurs fallen short against Borussia Dortmund in midweek, Thomas Frank had to produce something special. To his credit, Tottenham did exactly that, easing past a 10-man Dortmund side with a 2-0 home win.

Not many saw that result coming given Spurs were fresh off an embarrassing 2-1 home defeat to West Ham and were in the middle of a five-game winless run.

While Tottenham oddly find themselves 4th in the Champions League table, the domestic picture remains bleak as they sit 14th in the Premier League, with just two wins from their previous 13 league games.

On the other hand, Burnley remain deep in relegation trouble, sitting 19th in the table with just 14 points from 22 games and still without a league win since October. However, the Clarets showed plenty of fight their last time out, grinding their way to a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Liverpool.

What time does Burnley vs Tottenham Hotspur kick off?

Burnley vs Tottenham Hotspur: Head-to-head record

The sides met on the opening weekend of the Premier League season, with Tottenham cruising to a comfortable 3-0 win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Overall, Burnley have won just two of their previous 17 meetings with Spurs. Their last victory came back in February 2022 in a 1-0 win against Antonio Conte’s Tottenham.

Tottenham team news

Tottenham were without 13 first-team players against Dortmund due to a mix of injuries, suspensions and registration issues, but that number should drop here.

Joao Palhinha is a doubt after missing Spurs’ last two matches, while Lucas Bergvall picked up an injury before being withdrawn in midweek.

On the injury front, Ben Davies, James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, Rodrigo Bentancur, Richarlison and Mohammed Kudus all miss out. Pape Matar Sarr is also unavailable, having yet to return from AFCON due to illness.

Burnley team news

Burnley will be without Josh Cullen, Mike Tresor and Zeki Amdouni while Zian Flemming and Joe Worrall are doubts.

Maxime Esteve was forced off against Liverpool and remains a question mark, although there is optimism that a week’s recovery will be enough for him to be fit.

Predicted Tottenham line-up

Tottenham: Vicario; Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Spence; Gray, Bissouma, Gallagher; Odobert, Solanke, Tel

Burnley: Dubravka; Tuanzebe, Esteve, Humphreys; Walker, Ugochukwu, Florentino, Pires; Edwards, Broja, Anthony

Our prediction

Keep an eye on former Burnley man Wilson Odobert. Fresh off two assists in midweek, he constantly looked to take his man on and create danger. It will be interesting to see how former Spurs right-back Kyle Walker copes with the Frenchman’s footwork.

Spurs are desperate for a win if they are to climb the table and keep European qualification within reach. The fixture list only gets tougher from here, and Frank is still far from safe. Anything less than three points would crank the pressure right back up.

Despite Burnley’s struggles, Spurs may not see this as the straightforward afternoon it looks on paper, especially given their own habit this season of ending other teams’ winless runs.

That said, with Frank still appearing to have the dressing room’s backing, we expect Tottenham to eventually see out a comfortable victory.

Predicted score: Burnley 0-3 Tottenham
