Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that Joe Rodon is open to leaving Tottenham Hotspur on loan when the transfer window opens in January.

Rodon has shown some glimpses of quality since his move from Swansea City in the summer of 2020 but the Wales international has not had a run of starts under his belt since moving to North London.

The 24-year-old got his first start of the Antonio Conte era in Tottenham’s Europa Conference League clash against NS Mura on Thursday and he certainly did not set the world alight and was eventually replaced by Eric Dier in the 54th minute.

It was previously reported Rodon has been told by Conte that he is competing with Dier for the central role in a back three.

Gold has now revealed that the former Swansea man is growing increasingly frustrated at the lack of opportunities at Spurs. He is thus thought to be open to a temporary move away from the club in order to get regular game time.

However, the journalist revealed that any potential move for Rodon could depend on whether Spurs bring in a new centre-back in January, particularly if Cristian Romero’s injury proves to be serious.

I do feel sorry for Rodon, although I do not believe he has shown enough to suggest that he should start ahead of Eric Dier.

I was surprised to see Conte name Sanchez in the starting line up against Burnley at right-centre-back ahead of both Rodon and Tanganga, who are both better on the ball than the Colombian.

A loan move to a club like Leeds or Brighton in January could be just what Rodon needs to prove that he can perform consistently at Premier League level.
