Alderweireld’s first tweet since Roma rumours may hint at Tottenham stay

Tottenham Hotspur defender, Toby Alderweireld, has just one year left on his current contract in North London, after it was extended back in early 2019.

However, upon extending the deal for an extra year, Spurs also triggered a clause in Toby’s contract that could see him leave for just £25m this summer (Guardian).

Sky Sports reported last week that Italian side Roma were interested in taking the Belgian this summer, although no deal has been reached as of yet.

One report claimed that Roma were only willing to offer £18m for the player, but Daniel Levy is not willing to give any club a discount on the buyout clause.

There have even been talks of a swap deal involving Alderweireld plus £36m for Roma youngster Nicolo Zaniolo (Calcio Mercato).

However, Alderweireld’s latest Twitter post seems to indicate a Spurs stay, as he put up an image of him training with the squad, along with the caption ‘Running into the new week like’ and a #COYS hashtag.

Using the Come On You Spurs hashtag would be rather strange if the centre back had any intention of leaving over the next couple of weeks.
