Richarlison is Tottenham’s latest injury problem

Tottenham Hotspur come into their FA Cup tie on the back of a disappointing 4-0 Carabao Cup loss at the hands of Liverpool.

Going into the tie, the Lilywhites were without a whopping eight players who missed out because of injuries.

On the night itself, Tottenham did not escape their injury woes as striker Richarlison went off right before half-time with a calf problem.

Last weekend Tottenham boss, Ange Postecoglou confirmed that Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero will both miss the match against Liverpool.

He said: “With Micky and Romero to a certain extent, it’s about being conservative with them. Micky got through the 45 minutes but he feels he’s not ready yet for the step up to the Premier League yet. Obviously, a big shame to lose Radu.”

On Micky Van de Ven, he added: “It’s a bit of everything. He got through the game no problem but had a look at stats, Premier League is a whole different beast and after losing Radu, I thought about what we had ahead of us.

“Don’t get me wrong we have some big games ahead but also afforded ourselves a couple of clear weeks. Hopefully, we’re in the final of the Carabao Cup, hopefully, we’re still in the FA Cup and I don’t see sense of us risking it. Having Kevin in is a massive bonus and he [VDV] hasn’t reinjured but he feels he needs to get more into him. Same with Romero.”

With Radu Dragusin, Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero out injured, the Australian manager handed new signing Kevin Danso his first start.

Despite Tottenham conceding four goals in the Carabao Cup semi-final second goal, the debutant did not look out of place.

Ange Postecoglou provides fitness update on Micky van de Ven, Richarlison and Romero

Speaking to The Standard, the Tottenham Hotspur boss has now provided an update on the fitness of his injured stars and the likelihood of them featuring on Sunday afternoon.

When asked if there was the potential of any injured players returning, he said: “No. Dane Scarlett is available. He was obviously cup-tied last night.”

Postecoglou added: “We thought Micky was maybe a chance for the first hour. By start of next week we’re still hopeful we get one or two back for the Manchester United game, provided we don’t lose anyone else like we did Richy last night.

“I knew this week was a challenging week because we weren’t going to get anyone back. [Richarlison] was emotional last night because he’d worked really hard to get back. It’s another setback. We’re going to have to deal with him and get him back.”
