Tottenham Hotspur have discovered Napoli’s stance on their midfield target Antonio Vergara ahead of the summer transfer window.

Spurs reportedly failed with a move for Vergara during the winter, and it appears that the Lilywhites have now reignited their interest in the attacking midfielder.

Over recent days, several Italian outlets have claimed that Roberto De Zerbi’s side are trying to take the Napoli star to the Premier League.

The 23-year-old struggled for regular game time under Antonio Conte last season, making just 12 Serie A appearances, and the Italian club’s stance on the player has now come to light.

Tottenham need to make a ‘sensational offer’ to land Antonio Vergara

According to Sportmediaset, Tottenham are indeed fans of the versatile attacking midfielder, who can also operate on the right flank.

However, Spurs are not alone in their interest in Vergara, who is also on the radars of AS Roma and Como.

It is revealed that despite the growing interest, the midfielder is considered a ‘key part’ of the new era at Napoli, who would only accept ‘sensational offers’ for him.

The report explains that the rumours on Vergara’s future may be down to the fact that Max Allegri is yet to be officially announced as Napoli manager, with there remaining some uncertainty over the Italian coach’s plans for the midfielder.

Vergara’s agent refuses to confirm Napoli stay

Sportmediaset also carry quotes from the 23-year-old’s agent regarding the speculation over his client’s future.

Vergara’s representative Mario Giufreddi suggested that the decision may be out of their hands if the club decide to cash in on the former Italy U19 international.

Giufreddi said about the midfielder’s future: “We need to understand the club’s thinking: if they prefer to sell him for €25-€30m, we won’t stay. But it’s not Vergara’s choice, nor his agent’s: it will be Napoli’s decision.”
