Report: Spurs face Arsenal competition for £42.7m-rated defender

Tottenham Hotspur face stiff competition from North London rivals Arsenal if they wish to sign Eintracht Frankfurt’s Willian Pacho this summer, according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri.

The central defender only joined the Bundesliga club from Royal Antwerp last summer for €9m (£7.6m), which is proving to be a shrewd investment (Forbes).

Pacho started his career at Independiente del Valle, making 40 competitive appearances for the Ecuadorian first division side and helping the club win their first ever league title in 2021 before making the move to Belgium (transfermarkt).

Spurs were linked with a move for the centre-back back in January when Tavolieri claimed that the 22-year-old was emerging as a target for the North Londoners.

Eintracht Frankfurt want €50m for Willian Pacho

The German side are looking for a significant return on their investment in the Ecuadorian international and are demanding a €50m (£42.7m) fee in order to for any club to secure his services.

If Tottenham are looking to push forward with their interest, they may just have their old rivals to contend against.

SpursWeb Opinion

Ange Postecoglou has already started to revamp his central defensive options within the Tottenham Hotspur first team squad with the arrivals of Micky van de Ven and Radu Dragusin, along with the exit of Davinson Sanchez and Eric Dier.

Whether Spurs would be prepared to spend a significant fee on a player who is likely not to be a regular starter considering the partnership of van de Ven and Romero would be a strange move when there are other positions on the pitch that need more attention.
