Tottenham face pre-season fixture shuffle after club pulls out of match against Ange Postecoglou’s side

Tottenham Hotspur have revealed they will now face Singaporean side Lion City Sailors after AS Roma pulled out of the pre-season friendly clash against the Lilywhites.

The Tottenham squad are set to fly out to Australia on Friday ahead of their first official pre-season friendly of the summer clash against West Ham United at Perth’s Optus Stadium on July 18.

Spurs will subsequently fly to Bangkok to take on relegated Leicester City at the Rajamangala Stadium, following which they were scheduled to take on AS Roma at the Singapore National Stadium.

However, it was reported last week the clash against Roma was in doubt as the Italian side could cancel their tour to East Asia as a result of missed payments from the organisers of the first part of their tour (Gazzetta dello Sport via Football.London).

AS Roma will not face Spurs in pre-season

That has now come to fruition, with The Evening Standard confirming earlier today that Jose Mourinho’s Roma will no longer fly to Singapore during pre-season.

As a result, Ange Postecoglou‘s squad will take on Lion City Sailors in their final friendly of the Asia Tour before flying back to London to take on Shakhtar Donetsk at home on August 6.

Tottenham also confirmed they will take part in the Joan Gamper Trophy match against La Liga giants Barcelona on Tuesday 8 August, 8pm kick-off (local time) at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys.

Spurs Web Opinion

Postecoglou would have wanted to face a top-quality opposition to test his side and to make up his mind on some of the players. So, it is not ideal that we are playing a Singaporean side.

The match will now have to be treated mainly as a high-intensity training session as there is not much the Spurs boss would be able to learn tactically from the game.
