Atletico Madrid are seemingly not wasting any time in trying to get a deal for Cristian Romero done, with a new report shedding light on why the La Liga club are in a hurry to sign the Tottenham centre-back.
Some Tottenham Hotspur fans may have renewed hope that their vice-captain can be convinced to stay after the club got their hands on the Europa League trophy and secured passage into next season’s Champions League.
However, the reports from Spain continue to suggest that Tottenham’s Europa League win has not deterred Atletico Madrid’s confidence in landing Cristian Romero.
It has been claimed that Romero has already informed Daniel Levy of his intention to leave Spurs, with the 27-year-old thought to be keen on linking up with his compatriot Diego Simeone at the Metropolitano Stadium.

An approach from Atletico Madrid for Cristian Romero is imminent
Sky Sports have claimed on their transfer blog that the La Liga giants could make a move for the Tottenham man as early as this week.
Atletico CEO Miguel Angel Gil Marin is thought to be keen on kickstarting talks with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy soon as Simeone wants to bring the centre-back through the door before the Club World Cup gets underway in little over two weeks.
However, it is explained that after Tottenham secured passage into the Champions League, it is unknown whether Levy is as willing to discuss the sale of Romero any longer.
The outlet goes on to point out that Atletico are only willing to pay around £38m for the World Cup winner, while according to some sources, Spurs want as much as £59m for the centre-back, who has two years left on his contract in North London.
Could Ange Postecoglou’s future have an impact on Romero’s?
Ange Postecoglou has warned Daniel Levy that Romero is irreplaceable, urging the club to do whatever they can to hang on to the experienced defender.
Some publications have claimed over recent days that Tottenham’s decision on Postecoglou’s job could impact Romero’s decision, with the pair thought to share a very good relationship.
It remains to be seen if the Spurs hierarchy take the former Juventus man’s situation into account while making a decision on their managerial position as Levy continues to mull over whether to sack Postecoglou.
