Atletico Madrid’s Cristian Romero dream is fading away amid Tottenham stance

Atletico Madrid are no longer confident of landing Cristian Romero as a new report from Spain has revealed what Tottenham’s stance is on the centre-back following the club’s Europa League win.

Earlier this week, Romero sent a hint about potentially staying at Tottenham, which has given Spurs fans hope that the club may be able to hang onto the centre-back.

However, various Spanish outlets have claimed over the last few days that Atletico Madrid’s confidence about signing Romero remains undeterred by Spurs’ Europa League success.

A fresh report has suggested that Tottenham Hotspur are not making it easy for the La Liga club to complete a deal for the centre-back, thus causing some major concerns in the Spanish capital.

Tottenham reluctant to negotiate over Cristian Romero

Sport have now claimed that Atletico’s dream of signing the Argentine is now ‘fading away’ amidst Tottenham’s stance.

The report says that Diego Simeone has identified Romero as his top target and was keen to bring the defender through the door early in the window.

However, it is revealed that Tottenham are now reluctant to even enter into negotiations with the La Liga club regarding their centre-back.

There is an acknowledgement at Atletico that ‘it will be difficult to get Romero out of London’, given Daniel Levy’s tendency to be very tough during negotiations.

What Romero has told Spurs about his future

The one thing that most Spanish outlets appear to agree on is that the Tottenham man is keen to make a move to the Metropolitan Stadium.

It was reported at the start of this month that Cristian Romero had already agreed to personal terms with Atletico after giving the green light to the move.

It was claimed by Marca a couple of days ago that Romero already informed Tottenham of his wish to join Atletico.
