Tottenham Hotspur are about to tie their longest-serving player down to a one-year contract extension that will see him stay for the 2026/27 season.

Despite playing just five games for Spurs last season, Ben Davies is about to put pen to paper on a fresh deal with the Lilywhites that will see him extend his 12-year journey.

The Welshman signed for Tottenham back in 2014 and is now the longest-serving member of the Spurs playing staff, having made 363 appearances in all competitions.

In fact, only three clubs in the Premier League have longer-serving players than Davies, which is soon to become two when Seamus Coleman leaves Everton as a free agent.

Transfermarkt currently list Ben Davies’ market value at £2.59m.

Ben Davies to sign one-year contract extension with Tottenham

Spurs Web understands that Ben Davies will extend his stay at Tottenham Hotspur by a further twelve months, having agreed a new one-year deal with the club.

Davies’ current contract was set to expire at the end of June, but will now be contracted for a thirteenth season in North London.

The Welsh defender, who can cover at left-back or centre-back, is currently Tottenham’s 22nd all-time appearance-maker, but just four more games would see him climb to 17th.

Ange Postecoglou famously said that season three is even better than season two, and Spurs fans will certainly be hoping that season 13 improves on the relegation battle storyline of its predecessor.

One would expect Davies to retain his current weekly wage of £80,000 for one extra season.

Spurs are likely eyeing Davies as a future coach

Seeing as Davies has had injury problems in recent years and now finds himself behind the likes of Destiny Udogie, Andy Robertson, Djed Spence, and a whole host of centre-backs, it is safe to assume that there is a bigger plan at play in N17.

Tottenham are keen on bringing in executives with footballing knowledge. Ben Davies is highly regarded internally and is expected to step up into an unconfirmed role once his playing career ends.

Spurs legend Gary Mabbutt had already made his feelings clear on the matter, backing Davies for not only a new contract, but also a role beyond his retirement.

Mabbutt said: “Ben’s a great lad. What he has given to the club so far… it was just so unfortunate, the injury he received. It was devastating for him and for us because Ben’s a player you can always rely on.

“Certainly I hope something will be done with his contract, whether it be still on the playing side or maybe looking a bit more to the future, but hopefully still with Tottenham Hotspur.”

Roberto De Zerbi also praised Davies’ leadership during Tottenham’s relegation battle, and it is a well-known fact that the Italian wants to fill his Spurs dressing room with more leaders.
