Tottenham Hotspur legend Gary Mabbutt has now called for the club to extend Ben Davies’ contract, with the Welsh international set to become a free agent this summer.
Tottenham Hotspur are set for a busy summer at Hotspur Way, with several players’ futures remaining uncertain as preparations begin for next season.
Both Ben Davies and Yves Bissouma are out of contract this summer, while loan players Joao Palhinha and Randal Kolo Muani are expected to return to Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain, respectively, once the window opens.
There are also players who could be moved on because of underwhelming performances in recent seasons, with Tottenham expected to reshape the squad significantly after narrowly avoiding relegation.

Ben Davies will become a free agent this summer
Time will tell who stays and who departs, but Tottenham legend Gary Mabbutt, who won both the FA Cup and UEFA Cup during his time in north London, has called for soon-to-be free agent Ben Davies to be handed a new deal.
Davies has been a reliable performer throughout his decade-long stay at Tottenham, although his contributions this season were limited after a serious ankle injury in January ruled him out for the remainder of the campaign.
Despite that setback, Mabbutt believes Davies still deserves a new contract or at least a long-term role at the club.
Speaking to BBC Sport about the Welshman’s future, the former Spurs captain praised Davies’ importance to the side.
“Ben’s a great lad. What he has given to the club so far… it was just so unfortunate, the injury he received. It was devastating for him and for us because Ben’s a player you can always rely on.
“Certainly I hope something will be done with his contract, whether it be still on the playing side or maybe looking a bit more to the future, but hopefully still with Tottenham Hotspur.”

Spurs on the verge of Andy Robertson deal
Tottenham may already be preparing for life without Davies as they continue to pursue Liverpool defender Andy Robertson.
Spurs Web has reported that, after securing their Premier League status, Tottenham are set to complete a move for Robertson following a verbal agreement reached during the winter window.
While Mabbutt remains adamant that Davies deserves to retain his role at Tottenham, he also stressed the need for major improvements to the squad after such a disappointing season.
Speaking to BBC Radio Wales Breakfast, he admitted significant changes are needed this summer.
He said, “We have to bring in, I would say, a number of big players to change the squad. We need to change the level we are at. The ambition of the club is incredible and yet it’s not been reflected in the way things have happened in the last couple of seasons. A lot of work has to be done.”
