Many Tottenham fans will have noticed a big difference at Hotspur Way as the first group of players began pre-season training last Friday.
23 Tottenham first-team players have been spotted at Hotspur Way over the past few days as the first set of players returned from their summer break.
That includes many of the injured Spurs players such as Mohamed Kudus, Wilson Odobert and Dejan Kulusevski, who were doing some gym work.
At the end of last season, Tottenham CEO Vinai Venkatesham revealed that big changes are planned to improve the training ground, and it appears that work has begun on upgrading one part of the complex.
Tottenham players using a different facility as the gym gets renovated at Hotspur Way
From the images and videos released by the club, it is apparent that the players are not using the usual first-team gym at Hotspur Way.
Football.London have revealed that the one the first-team Spurs stars are using at the moment is the smaller gym located at The Lodge, the luxurious hotel complex with the training ground.
The website explains the players are using this facility as the first-team gym in the main building is currently being renovated.
The decision to improve the first-team gym was taken after performance director Dan Lewindon’s review found that the club’s gym was nowhere near the level of the other big clubs in the Premier League.
That was also the feeling among some coaching staff, who felt the training ground was an environment geared towards comfort rather than performance.
As a result, work is underway to improve the facilities to bring it up to the standard of the biggest clubs in Europe.
Sandro Tonali is yet to report for pre-season training
While new signings, Mateus Fernandes and Martin Dubravka, have been spotted in the training ground, the club’s record signing, Sandro Tonali, has not reported for training yet.
This is because Tonali is waiting for his new work permit to arrive after his switch from Newcastle United in the summer.
However, Spurs fans should not be worried, as Alasdair Gold explained a few days ago that the Tottenham midfielder’s work permit is a mere formality, with the Italian simply going through the process.
