Vinai Venkatesham has shed light on what Tottenham Hotspur are going to do behind the scenes to fix their injury situation and to ensure that the players are in prime condition to perform.
Earlier this week, it emerged that Tottenham’s performance director, Dan Lewindon, is leading an internal investigation into all areas of the club, including the medical department, to find out where the club have fallen short.
The Telegraph reported a couple of days ago that sweeping changes are expected to be made to the Spurs’ medical department and the way the club deals with recovery and rehabilitation.
The report explained that Tottenham have identified a need to give their injured players more individualised care, and to ensure that each player’s training program is based on the physical demands of their position as well as their individual fitness history.

Vinai Venkatesham says everything at Tottenham will now be geared towards player performance
The Tottenham CEO has now revealed the steps that will be taken to ensure that the club avoid the injury pitfalls they have suffered from over the last two years.
He explained that Spurs are investing in putting together a world-class performance team, and revealed that several things are set to be changed at Hotspur Way.
When asked what the reason is for Tottenham’s repeated injury crises and what the club are planning to do to fix it, Venkatesham told Spurs’ official channel: “There are, of course, reasons for it. There are lots of things that contribute to the injury burden that we have. There are predominantly two major things that we are focused on. One is putting together a world-class team of individuals in the performance team, so we have the best talent and the best people and the best expertise to work with and manage our players, structured and organised in the right way to be effective. So that’s one piece.
“And the second piece is going back to what I was saying earlier about making sure that performance is used as the lens through which we make our decisions. Our training ground is amazing in so many ways, but it has to change, and it needs to adapt to become much more focused around performance.
“But if you think about what’s important to a player, the pitches I’m going to train on, the room I’m going to get tactically briefed in, the gym where I’m going to do my strength work and the place that I’m going to be with the others in my team to eat and fuel. And three of those four things, we feel that we need to fundamentally change to be more focused on performance.”
Venkatesham insists De Zerbi will lead a long-term project at Spurs
The Lilywhites have often veered between stylistically very different managers over the last seven years, having struggled for continuity since the Mauricio Pochettino era.
However, Venkatesham revealed that Tottenham are now confident that they have found the right man to lead a long-term project in De Zerbi.
The Spurs chief added: “We’ve brought in Roberto as our new head coach, an excellent tactical coach. I’ve been really, really impressed with him and his staff and the working together of the club staff that he wanted to work with and his staff. We really, really believe in Roberto and think he will be a really important part of our future.”
