Cristian Romero’s days at Tottenham Hotspur could be numbered, with the Argentine looking set to seal an exit ahead of the new season.
Having already strengthened at centre-back with the additions of Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke, the Lilywhites are now working on moving on their captain.
According to reports, Inter Milan and Tottenham have reached a basis of an agreement for Romero’s transfer, although work is still required for the Nerazzurri to complete the deal.
It has been claimed that Inter are hoping to have a deal for Romero finalised in just 10 days, which means that the centre-back may have already set foot at Hotspur Way for the final time.

It is certainly a big shift in the stance of the North London club, who only offered Romero a bumper contract and the captain’s armband 12 months ago.
Brad Friedel understands why Tottenham have made the decision to part ways with the Argentine, insisting that his attitude has done more harm than good to the team.
When asked if the time is right for Romero to head to pastures new, the former Spurs goalkeeper told GiveMeSport: “I think so. You know he’s had some interesting moments at Tottenham both on and off the pitch. For whatever reason, I don’t know if he plays brilliantly for Argentina, although they’re leaking a few goals this World Cup.
“His attitude at times with Tottenham, I think he was one of the issues over the last couple of seasons, which is a shame, not, you know, one of the solutions. So I can fully understand the club wanting to part ways, and I fully understand why they’ve brought other players in.”
Spurs are tired of Romero’s shenanigans
While there is no doubting that the 28-year-old is one of the best in the world when he has his head screwed on, the reality is that a lot of negatives come with the package.
Apart from his disciplinary issues on the pitch, Romero’s regular public outbursts against the club, although supported by a section of the fan base, were fundamentally unhelpful in the quest of previous managers to create unity.
I news revealed last week that punctuality has been a ‘persistent issue’ for Romero at Tottenham even after being made the captain, and the club were unwilling to deal with his ‘shenanigans’ for one more year.
