Brentford want to sign £15m Tottenham midfielder overlooked by Roberto De Zerbi

Brentford are eyeing a move for a Tottenham midfielder who failed to start any of Roberto De Zerbi’s seven league games in charge of the North London club.

It has been widely reported over the past week that Spurs want to make an ambitious addition in the centre-midfield position, and that now appears to be coming to fruition.

Over the last 24 hours, Tottenham have made advances on a shock deal to sign Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United.

With the Lilywhites pushing ahead with their plans to bolster their options in the middle of the park, one Spurs midfielder could be forced out of the club.

Brentford are targeting Tottenham midfielder Pape Sarr

Pape Matar Sarr is yet to start a game under De Zerbi, and the former Metz man could potentially be on his way out of Hotspur Way this summer.

This is according to Sky Sports, who say that Brentford are prioritising signing a midfielder this summer and have set their sights on the Senegal international.

However, the 23-year-old is not the only midfielder on the Bees’ radar, with the West London club also having Middlesbrough’s Hayden Hackney and PSV Eindhoven’s Joey Veerman on their wishlist.

Could Sarr’s departure open the door for Spurs to secure Hayden Hackney?

This update is consequential to Tottenham in more ways than one, as reports indicate that Spurs are also considering a move for Hackney.

The 23-year-old Tottenham target can reportedly leave Boro for £25m this summer after the club failed to secure promotion to the Premier League.

It appears that the Lilywhites may thus have one less competitor in the race for Hackney if they sell Sarr to Brentford.
