The Argentine press have provided an update on the fitness of Tottenham captain Cristian Romero ahead of their round of 32 clash against Cape Verde.
Romero is expected to leave Tottenham this summer, with the centre-back’s relationship with the club having reportedly become strained towards the end of last season.
Spurs have already replaced the Argentine’s potential loss, securing both Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke at the start of the transfer window.
However, it appeared as if their plans to sell the defender may have suffered a minor setback when Romero suffered another knee injury in the 2-0 win over Austria and subsequently missed Argentina’s 3-1 win over Jordan.

Tottenham star Cristian Romero expected to start Argentina’s clash against Cape Verde
Nicolas Otamendi started with Tottenham new boy Marcos Senesi in the heart of the Argentina defence against Jordan, but the World Champions are expected to return to their full-strength defence in their next game.
This is according to Ole, who say that Romero has trained normally with the squad this week in Kansas and has suffered no setbacks.
The centre-back is expected to come back into the starting line-up for the clash against Cape Verde on Friday as long as he feels no pain before the game.
The publication adds that the feeling around the camp is that Lionel Scaloni will be able to return to his tried and tested pairing of Romero and Lisandro Martinez in the heart of defence in the upcoming fixture.
Has Romero had a change of heart about his Spurs future?
It has been reported over recent weeks that Spurs are willing to sell Romero for around £50m-£60m this summer.
Given how much the Lilywhites have spent since the window opened, they may now be banking on that sale to recoup some of the money.
However, SportsBoom claimed last week that Romero had informed Spurs that he now wants to stay at the club rather than seeking a new challenge.
It was explained that the centre-back believes that he still has unfinished business at N17 and sees himself as an important figure in helping the club move forward.
