Darren Bent praises English defender who has been linked with Spurs and Liverpool

Former Tottenham striker Darren Bent has raved about Ben White who is reported to be on the club’s radar.

The Brighton central defender has had an extremely impressive season on loan at Leeds where he has been an ever-present at the heart of Marcelo’s Bielsa’s backline (transfermarkt).

Leeds boast of an impressive defensive record this season and White’s contribution to that has been paramount.

Sky Sports revealed in January that the 22-year-old’s performances in the Championship this season have caught the attention of Spurs, Chelsea and Liverpool, all of whom have said to have sent scouts to watch him this season.

Some Spurs fans on social media have already urged the club to get their hands on the highly-rated youngster.

Bent raved about the defender’s performance against Middlesborough on Wednesday night when he helped the Whites to a 1-0 win at the Riverside Stadium to maintain their push for automatic promotion to the Premier League.

Speaking about White, Bent told EFL on Quest: “They’ve (Leeds) had 19 wins [in the Championship] this season with 14 clean sheets which is absolutely sensational.

“Ben White at the back has been fantastic, he’s made a huge difference.

“Top teams are looking at him, I think Liverpool are interested. He’s been a massive, massive signing for Leeds. If they can keep the clean sheets and defensively remain very, very strong, I think this could be their season.”

A defensive shake-up looks to be in order in the summer with the likes of Jan Vertonghen and Danny Rose looking likely to be on their way out. I have been impressed with what I was seen of White this season but he is yet to be tested consistently in the Premier League. A lot will also depend on whether Jose sees Tanganga playing as a full-back or a centre back in the future.
