The future of Tottenham academy starlet Jamie Donley could become a hot topic over the coming weeks.
Donley was recalled from his spell at Stoke City in January and loaned out to Oxford United for the second half of the season, and the attacking midfielder showed promise at Kassam Stadium, alongside Spurs academy teammate Will Lankshear.
The 21-year-old Spurs midfielder has also impressed in his outings for Northern Ireland, showing that he has the temperament to cope with the pressures of international football.
The youngster would be hoping to catch the eye of Roberto De Zerbi in pre-season, with several senior Tottenham stars yet to return from their summer break.
Tottenham willing to cash in on Jamie Donley
Donley’s senior debut for Spurs came almost three years ago, when he came on as a substitute in Tottenham’s 3-3 draw with Man City back in 2023.
The midfielder has not progressed as much as many at Tottenham may have hoped over the last couple of years, and former journalist Darren Witcoop, who now works in talent management, has now claimed that Spurs will listen to offers for the youngster.
Witcoop wrote on X: “Tottenham will listen to offers for Northern Ireland attacking midfielder Jamie Donley this summer. Donley has already spent loan spells in the Championship with Stoke and Oxford. Striker Will Lankshear is also attracting interest, with Southampton keen.”
Spurs insider refutes transfer claim about Donley
However, Tottenham insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club’s youth teams on his social media platform, the Lilywhite Rose, has now dismissed Witcoop’s claim.
Wenham insisted that Spurs have no plans to cash in on Donley and suggested that Roberto De Zerbi seems to be a fan of the academy midfielder.
Reacting to Witcoop’s post, Wenham stated on X: “Understand this is not the position at the moment at all. Jamie is one of the few players who had been out on loan last season who is continuing to train with the first-team and not the U21s and Roberto De Zerbi appears to rate him.”
