Tottenham contact £51m midfielder who scored against Brazil, Liverpool and Arsenal want him too

Tottenham Hotspur have made contact with the representative of World Cup star Kaishu Sano, but it is Liverpool who lead the pursuit for a deal with the defensive midfielder.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup has seen several standout performances from players across the globe.

Spurs stars have not been left out, with Djed Spence and Pedro Porro among the Lilywhites’ standout performers.

Several other players have also impressed, and Spurs Web have even highlighted at least five wingers Tottenham should target from the World Cup.

Tottenham remain in the market for attacking reinforcements this summer as they look to strengthen their squad.

Tottenham tracking World Cup standout Kaishu Sano

According to TeamTalk, Tottenham have set their sights on a midfielder who impressed at the World Cup this summer.

It is explained that Mainz defensive midfielder Kaishu Sano is on Spurs’ radar following his impressive World Cup campaign with Japan, which saw them reach the round of 32.

Tottenham are now understood to have contacted his representatives. The midfielder managed one goal and two assists in 34 Bundesliga appearances last season.

He was also on target against Brazil in the round of 32, finding the net from range to beat Alisson.

Liverpool lead race for Spurs target Kaishu Sane

However, while Spurs are in the mix, it is Liverpool who are leading the race for Sano this summer.

The Reds are said to be considering a bid that would comfortably represent a record sale for Mainz if accepted.

The Bundesliga outfit are said to value the midfielder at £51 million ($69 million) and are determined to stick to their asking price as they anticipate offers this summer.

Arsenal are also in the race alongside Borussia Dortmund, who have likewise made contact with Sano’s representatives.
