De Zerbi namedrops Harry Kane to explain why Tottenham will not struggle to score goals

Roberto De Zerbi has made a confident statement about his Tottenham Hotspur side, even though they have not scored a single goal so far this season.

While one point from a possible nine in their first three games is not the start Spurs fans would have wanted, what is much more concerning to many is the fact that the Lilywhites are yet to find the back of the net in six halves of football.

Many pundits have suggested that this Tottenham team does not have enough goals in it even though they have spent huge amounts this summer.

The problem has been compounded by Richarlison’s falling out with the club, which has seen the Brazilian being left out of the Premier League squad.

Roberto De Zerbi says Omar Marmoush has to score ‘stupid’ goals for Tottenham

The Spurs boss is confident that new signing Omar Marmoush can deliver goals to his side, even though his record in front of goal is not eye-catching since his move to the Premier League.

De Zerbi suggested that the Egypt international has to change his habits to also score scruffy goals instead of always going for the spectacular.

When asked about Marmoush’s capacity in front of goal, the 46-year-old told Football.London: “In terms of goals [Marmoush] is not Harry Kane but he can score more goals than he has done in the last two seasons. At Eintracht Frankfurt, he scored lots of goals.

“He played with another striker close to him sometimes, and sometimes no, but if you analyse his qualities, he can score more goals, and he has to demand himself more goals. Even the stupid goals, he has to change his habits after being used to scoring the great goals.”

De Zerbi not worried about losing Spurs’ top three goalscorers from last season

It was put to the Tottenham boss that the three players who scored the most goals for the club last season: Richarlison, Cristian Romero and Joao Palhinha, are no longer in the squad.

However, De Zerbi pointed out that Spurs will have a lot more contributions from other areas to make up for that loss.

De Zerbi said: “Solanke didn’t play many games (last season). I hope Solanke can be available this season more than last. Marmoush didn’t play for Tottenham last season. Savio didn’t play last season for Tottenham. Mathys Tel has to improve.

“Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray. Now Tel is 21 and he has to push, to show, because the level of football is you show who you are and what you can do, or you lose the level. I think we can score goals with this squad, but we have to see.”
