Roberto De Zerbi has opened up on Mykhailo Mudryk’s Tottenham Hotspur debut after the winger managed 16 minutes of action against Nottingham Forest.
Tottenham Hotspur had to settle for a single point, their first of the season, in their clash against Nottingham Forest.
The draw at the City Ground also saw Spurs end a run of four defeats on the bounce to Forest, who have dominated this fixture in recent years.
While it is not three points, it certainly gives Roberto De Zerbi and his side a platform to build on as they look to get their season back on track after losing their first two games of the season.
Roberto De Zerbi opens up Mykhailo Mudryk’s Tottenham debut
During the course of the game, as Spurs looked to turn their draw into a win, Roberto De Zerbi turned to his substitutes, handing a debut to deadline‑day signing Mykhailo Mudryk.
The 25-year-old replaced Mathys Tel and came on in the 76th minute of the game in what was his first appearance in a competitive match since his return to football.
Mudryk had little impact on proceedings, which is hardly a surprise given he has not played competitive football since 2024. De Zerbi has now opened up on the winger’s debut when speaking to football.london.
He said: “He is not ready yet. He is working to reach the best physical condition. He needs time, he needs work. In that position, we have Mathys Tel, big potential. But also Mathys takes too many wrong decisions, and Mudryk. So, two big players, two big potential players.”
Spurs attack must find rhythm
While De Zerbi is calling for time, there is a need for his attack to find some rhythm, as Tottenham are yet to score a goal this season. Against Forest, Tottenham were equally toothless and did not manage a single shot on target all game.
De Zerbi, however, is adamant it is nothing to be concerned about. Speaking about Spurs’ lack of shots on target, he said, “We could score three or four goals today because if you take the wrong decision you don’t score but it’s still a chance.”
Tottenham will now be looking to change their fortune in front of goal in the coming weeks, as they are set to take on Everton in their next Premier League game.
