Former Tottenham striker Mido has shared what he thinks is the best position for the club’s new signing Omar Marmoush.
There is pressure on the recent recruit from Manchester City to deliver goals for Roberto De Zerbi’s side this season.
The club’s top scorer from last season, Richarlison, has not been named in Spurs’ Premier League squad, while Dominic Solanke has not shown that he can stay fit for a whole season.
Marmoush is still waiting for his first goal for the Lilywhites after two matches, and one of his former managers has now made an interesting claim about his ideal role.
Mido suggests number nine is not Omar Marmoush’s best role at Tottenham
De Zerbi has said that Marmoush has the qualities to thrive as a striker, pointing out that he did lead the line plenty of times at Eintracht Frankfurt.
However, Mido, who managed the forward when he was the head coach of Egyptian club Wadi Degla back in 2016-17, believes that the 27-year-old is better suited to playing as a 10 or on the left wing.
The former Spurs striker told The Sun: “Omar is exactly the type of player Tottenham needs. Hungry, brave, has a great knowledge of the game, is used to the pressure and knows how to use it as a weapon.
“He knows how to score goals and has already proved that. His timing when running in behind defenders is scary if he gets the right passes. His best position is a No 10 and a left-winger. He is not great playing with his back to the goal. I’m sure the manager realised that.”
Mido urges Spurs fans to have realistic expectations this season
The 43-year-old admitted that he has been pleased with Tottenham’s transfer business this summer and backed De Zerbi to deliver.
However, Mido also suggested that it may be too soon to expect the Lilywhites to challenge for a top six finish, adding that a top 10 finish would represent progress for the club this term.
He added: “I think it’s been a great transfer market for the club, and we have a great manager now. We only need to believe in ourselves and start winning some games!
“Tottenham’s got the squad and the manager to be top half of the table. This is the realistic target for this season. You can’t be fighting relegation for a couple of seasons and talk about Europe. We have to be realistic.”
