Spurs fans are pointing the finger at the top

Irrespective of whether they want Ange Postecoglou to be sacked or given time to turn things around, most Spurs fans seem to be in agreement that the club’s issues stem from the top.

Daniel Levy was already not a very popular man among the fan base and the anger against the chairman has now spilled over in light of the club’s inaction in the current transfer market.

Tottenham are yet to sign a single outfield player in the window despite their injury crisis and the supporters certainly made their feelings about their current owners clear against Leicester on Sunday.

Micah Richards says Spurs problems go beyond Postecoglou

While Ange Postecoglou appears to be fighting for his job at the moment, Richards questioned if sacking the Australian might fix any of Tottenham’s deficiencies.

He pointed to the number of top managers who have failed at N17 over the last few years as evidence that the problems are much more deep-rooted.

The pundit said on Rest is Football podcast: “There must be something wrong, because if you look at Nuno Espirito Santo who was at Tottenham, now at Forest, of course, what [Antonio] Conte is doing at Napoli… Okay, Mourinho, yes, you expect him to do that. He’s second for Fenerbahce in the Turkish League.

“But they’ve all been at Spurs and maybe had more time, but they couldn’t get it right, is the opinion of the time, so when you’re talking about Spurs and the managers, it’s very difficult to know what’s going on behind the scenes because people go from there and end up doing well.

“Is that what the Spurs fans are alluding to with Levy? It must be something deep-rooted in what they’re trying to do?”

Alan Shearer says Spurs are still paying for past mistake

If you ask Tottenham supporters, many of them will agree that this downturn essentially started around 2018 when the club failed to back Mauricio Pochettino sufficiently despite coming close to winning the title in consecutive seasons.

Spurs famously went through two transfer windows without making any signings at the time, and Shearer believes that they have never recovered from there.

The Newcastle legend said: “When you look at Pochettino as well, he needed to be backed at that particular time when he could have taken them to the next level, I think, and they didn’t. When you look at the managers that have been in the club, it has to be a bigger problem than the managers.”
