Director says club are trying to hand new contract to rumoured Spurs target

Paris Saint-Germain director, Leonardo has revealed that the French club intend to offer rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target Angel Di Maria a new contract.

Reports from France claimed last month that Spurs were looking to snap up Di Maria when his contract with PSG runs out in the summer.

It was alleged that the North Londoners had already established contact with the player’s entourage, with Jose Mourinho keen on reuniting with the winger who he worked with at Real Madrid.

At the time, some Spurs fans on social media were quite puzzled by the idea of why the club would go after a player who was past his best and had struggled during his time in the Premier League with Manchester United.

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold also expressed doubts as to whether there was any truth to the speculation linking Spurs with a move for the Argentine.

Leanardo has now confirmed that the Parisians intend to offer the 33-year-old a new contract along with other important players like Kylian Mbappe.

The PSG director told France Bleu: “On Kylian Mbappé’s contract, we’ve been talking for a long time.

“I think we are reaching the moment where we have to take a position and a decision. We have a good opening of dialogue. It’s on the right track.

“We are on the same page, I think. Same for Di Maria and Bernat.

“The idea is to get there as quickly as possible, because we intend to renew all four.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I can see why a player of Di Maria’s profile would be an attractive proposition for Mourinho and Spurs, particularly if he is available on a free transfer. However, I would rather see Spurs hang on to Erik Lamela than bringing in a short-term fix like Di Maria.
