European giants’ club president claims rumoured Spurs target is ‘non-transferable’

In what could come as a blow for Tottenham Hotspur, Barcelona president Josep Bartomeu has revealed that Nelson Semedo is not for sale this summer.

Signing a right-back is reportedly high on the list of Jose Mourinho’s priorities this summer, with reports indicating that the Spurs boss is not convinced by Serge Aurier (Daily Mail).

Previous reports have indicated that Semedo was one of the options Tottenham were considering this summer (Don Balon).

However, there have also been claims that the 26-year-old could be handed a new deal at the Camp Nou (Mundo Deportivo).

Semedo was arguably one of Barca’s worst performers in the 8-2 demolition at the hands of Bayern Munich as the Portuguese defender was personally at fault for several of Bayern’s goals.

On the back of that performance, some Spurs fans urged the club to stay away from the Barca defender and insisted that he would not be an upgrade over Aurier.

It looks as if these supporters will get their wish as Bartomeu has now claimed that the La Liga giants will not be listening to offers for Semedo this summer.

He told The Daily Mirror: “Messi is untouchable & non-transferable. He knows it, we all know it.

“But there are various non-transferable players like (Marc Andre) Ter Stegen, (Clement) Lenglet, (Nelson) Semedo, (Frenkie) De Jong, (Antoine) Griezmann, (Ousmane) Dembele – players we are counting on in the future.”

Semedo is better at beating his man and has a better delivery on him than Aurier does. However, if Jose’s main issue with Serge is his defending and his tendency to lose concentration, then the Barca man is demonstrably worse than the Ivorian on those counts. So I doubt we will make a move for Semedo this summer.
