Fabrizio Romano gives update on contract situation of Spurs-linked Andreas Christensen

In what comes as a potential blow to Tottenham in their pursuit of Andreas Christensen, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the centre-back is expected to sign a new deal at Chelsea.

Christensen’s current deal at Stamford Bridge runs out at the end of the season and the defender could thus be free to talk to clubs outside England from next month.

The Daily Star reported on Sunday that the 25-year-old could leave Chelsea as a free agent in the summer and that Spurs had joined in the race for his signature.

The report revealed that the North London club faced competition from the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City, AC Milan and Barcelona for the 25-year-old.

This report was met with approval from some Spurs fans on social media, who suggested that the Denmark international could be a good fit in Antonio Conte’s back three.

However, Romano has now revealed in the latest video on his YouTube Channel that the feeling at Stamford Bridge is that Christensen will eventually sign an extension.

The journalist revealed that the centre-back has received approaches from Barcelona and AC Milan but his intention is to stay at Chelsea.

Romano also added that as things stand, Thomas Tuchel’s men are ‘confident’ that Christensen will put pen to paper on a new contract.

Spurs Web Opinion

I felt Christensen was a more realistic target for Spurs than Rudiger, who is likely to be the subject of interest from many top clubs around Europe.

However, it looks like the North London club might now have to shift their attentions elsewhere, with the Dane seemingly set to stay at Chelsea.
