Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Tottenham Hotspur’s ongoing efforts to secure Jan Paul Van Hecke.

Tottenham have been advancing towards the signing of Van Hecke, who has just a year left on his contract at Brighton.

The Seagulls’ CEO, Paul Barber, revealed on Sunday that Brighton had already rejected two offers from Spurs for the Dutch centre-back.

It appears that the only thing left is an agreement between the two clubs, with some reports claiming over recent hours that Tottenham have already agreed personal terms with Van Hecke.

Jan Paul Van Hecke and Roberto De Zerbi keen on reunion at Tottenham

Romano has now revealed on social media that the negotiations between the South Coast club and the North London side are ongoing for the 25-year-old.

He explained that the Brighton centre-back, as well as the Tottenham boss, are both pushing for the deal to be finalised.

Romano told X: “Negotiations continue between Spurs and Brighton for Jan Paul van Hecke, talks planned again this week. Van Hecke wants the move, Roberto De Zerbi wants him. Club-to-club talks are still on after Brighton rejected two proposals.”

Spurs star has already spoken to Van Hecke over switch to N17

The Tottenham target is currently preparing for the World Cup with the Netherlands squad, having played 87 minutes in their friendly against Algeria last week.

His international teammate, Micky van de Ven, has admitted that he has spoken to Van Hecke regarding a move to Spurs, suggesting that it would be a ‘good step’ for the Brighton man.

Van de Ven and Van Hecke have conceded just seven goals in the 11 games they have played together for the Dutch U21s and senior side, and that is a partnership Spurs fans will be hoping to see at N17 next season.
