Will Carabao Cup failure trigger a review at Tottenham?

It was widely reported over recent weeks that Tottenham were hesitant to sack Ange Postecoglou before the second leg of the Carabao Cup semifinal as they want to give the Australian a chance to steer the club to their first cup final in four years.

However, not only did Spurs fail to get to the final, but they were also humiliated by Liverpool, failing to throw a single punch and delivering what was a sorry performance at Anfield, which has been heavily criticised.

This has once again led to speculation over the 59-year-old’s future at N17, with some sources suggesting that he might not have too long left in the job.

This includes TEAMtalk, who have reported that the Australian might have just one game left to save his job and could even have a meeting with Daniel Levy about his future as early as next week.

It appears to be service as usual at Hotspur Way at the moment, with no sign coming from the club that they are on the cusp of making a big change.

Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed that even his sources are not under the impression that a managerial change is imminent at Spurs.

When asked if Tottenham are thinking about sacking Postecoglou, the journalist told GiveMeSport: “I don’t have any message on potential sack or surprises. The situation remains under control at the moment.”

Daniel Levy and the Tottenham hierarchy face a difficult decision

Having helped Postecoglou lay the foundations of the kind of squad that can play his style of football, sacking him could potentially mean rebuilding the squad again.

Levy and the club’s decision-makers have decided to stick with the Australian until now and there is no point pulling the plug before he has some of his key players back from injury.

The Tottenham hierarchy will be desperate for there to at least be a mini resurgence as they would not want to make a managerial change before the end of the season.
