Five players with the most hat-tricks in Tottenham history, but Harry Kane isn’t top

5. Cliff Jones – 10 Tottenham Hat-Tricks

Cliff Jones was a Welsh winger who spent ten years at Tottenham during the club’s golden era in the early 1960s, when they won the league title and several FA Cups. He scored 159 goals in 378 appearances in all competitions.

He was also a key part of the famous 1960/61 double-winning side and stood out for his pace, skill and direct style of play, which made him a constant problem for defenders. He played a big role in the club’s success in both domestic and European competitions during the 1960s.

Jones built strong attacking understanding with his teammates in a side full of quality forwards, often combining well and adding goals of his own. He finished his Spurs career with 10 hat-tricks, showing his consistency in front of goal over a long period. He is ranked sixth in Tottenham Hotspur’s all-time top scorers list.

4. Bobby Smith – 12 Hat-Tricks for Spurs

A key part of the famous 1960/61 double-winning side, Bobby Smith was a powerful and hard-working centre-forward. He matched George Hunt with 12 hat-tricks and scored 208 goals in total for Tottenham, showing how important he was in one of the club’s best ever teams.

Smith had the strength and aggression to trouble any defence and played a big role in Tottenham’s rise to success in English and European football during the early 1960s. His finishing and physical style made him a constant threat in big matches.

He also formed a strong partnership with Jimmy Greaves. While Greaves was known for his smart movement and quick finishing, Smith led the line with power and intensity, creating space and chances as well as scoring himself.

His hat-tricks were often key moments in important games, helping Spurs win matches in both the league and cup competitions. This made him one of Bill Nicholson’s most trusted players during a golden era for the club. He is ranked third in Tottenham Hotspur’s all-time top scorers list.

3. George Hunt: 12 Tottenham Hat-Tricks

George Hunt was born in Mexborough, Yorkshire in 1910 and was one of Tottenham’s main strikers in the 1930s. He scored 138 goals in 198 games, making him the club’s eighth all-time top scorer.

He joined Spurs from Chesterfield after impressing with his speed and strength. He played an important role in the team that won promotion back to the First Division in 1933-34 and had a strong scoring run, including three hat-tricks in six games in March 1934.

In total, he scored 12 hat-tricks for the club, showing how dangerous he was in front of goal. In 1937, he left Tottenham to join Arsenal, becoming the first player to make that move directly between the two clubs.

2. Harry Kane: 13 Hat-Tricks in Spurs colours

Harry Kane is the player who defined Tottenham in the Premier League era and came closest to breaking Jimmy Greaves’ record. His finishing, power and consistency made him a constant threat, and he delivered big goals for the club year after year.

He came through the club’s academy and worked his way into the first team after loan spells at Leyton Orient, Millwall and others. His early steps in senior football helped shape him into the striker he later became at Tottenham.

His first hat-trick came in a Europa League win against Asteras Tripolis, a match also remembered for the unusual moment when he had to go in goal after Hugo Lloris was sent off. From that point, it was clear he was ready to lead the team.

Jimmy Greaves is widely seen as one of the best natural finishers in English football history and he sits top of this list. During his time at Tottenham, he scored a club record 15 hat-tricks in all competitions, a record that still stands today.

He was not only a prolific scorer but also a very intelligent and clinical striker who made goals look simple with his movement, timing and finishing inside the box. This ability made him a constant threat and helped him produce consistent goalscoring performances throughout his time at the club.

One of his standout moments came on his Spurs debut against Blackpool in 1961 when he scored a hat-trick that included an overhead kick, immediately showing the quality he would bring.

Across 381 appearances, he scored 268 goals and often made top defenders look out of their depth with his positioning and instincts in front of goal, always being in the right place at the right time.

During his time at the club, he also played in a strong Tottenham side alongside key players such as Dave Mackay, Alan Mullery and Terry Venables in midfield, with a solid defensive base including Pat Jennings, Cyril Knowles, Maurice Norman and Phil Beal helping to support the team
