Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks is now closing in on a move to Serie A side Cagliari following Leicester City’s relegation from the Championship.
Relegation is absolutely one of the worst experiences for any football fan supporting a club. Spurs were so close to reaching those rather low heights last campaign after a dismal showing.
A whopping 17 games lost, with the majority coming this calendar year, was enough to keep Tottenham in the first division of English football – but only just.
Spurs’ blushes were spared as West Ham themselves struggled to find consistency last season, performing even worse than Tottenham to finish 18th after suffering 19 defeats last campaign.

Harry Winks closes in on Cagliari move after Leicester City relegation
While Tottenham were able to avoid relegation by the narrowest of margins, needing a final‑day 1‑0 win over Everton to secure 41 points, the Championship saw one of the shocks of the season with Leicester going down.
The Foxes, who enjoyed top‑flight status in the Premier League and have featured in 19 seasons in the top flight, suffered relegation to the Championship in 24‑25.
A year on and it is back‑to‑back relegations, with Leicester now set to drop into League One next season.
With that come exits, and Fabrizio Romano has now revealed that former Spurs midfielder Harry Winks is on the verge of securing a move to Cagliari from Leicester City.
Spurs must learn from Leicester’s struggles
Spurs did manage to avoid one of the most painful feats by retaining their Premier League status. Had they been relegated, then this summer window could well have looked very different to what it is now.
There would very much have been a mass exodus, with many players securing moves elsewhere, which could possibly have set the club back a few years.
However, the lesson seems to have been learned, with Tottenham now looking to bolster their squad ahead of next season as they hope to avoid another dismal league campaign.
